Elizabeth Elder has studied art at Skidmore College and the Maine College of Art — and in independent workshops along the way. She has exhibited paintings in Coastal Maine locations, Maryland’s Greater Baltimore area, Westchester and Putnam Counties of New York, and Fairfield County, Connecticut. She is the former editor of community newspapers and has published books, plays, essays, and verse collections. She is also a former English teacher and has coached creative writing at the high-school level. Her art extends also into International and American dance traditions including Argentine Tango, ballroom, and Latin styles. Elizabeth is a member of the
Katonah Museum Artist
Association, the Yellow Studio in Cross River, NY, and the Carriage Barn in New Canaan, CT.

I see art as inroads to wonder and wordlessness, and as a sensibility — a way of thinking, musing, organizing, and conceptualizing. Art is unity in disunity and harmony in chaos. It is where dissimilar figures and ideas are not shy about showing off their similarities.
Art leaves no one out. For some people, art may find itself disguised as a hobby — a temporary respite from routine or convention. A soft joy. A pleasure that revives the spirit. For others, art may coalesce around a single passion, driving its solitary focus toward a lifestyle or career.
We are always — or sometimes — artists. The world re-creates itself by the minute, and so we are within the creativity that is within us. We create as we are created, and in doing so, we are the simple proof of creativity itself.
